Amber Rudd appointed Energy and Climate Change Secretary

Prime Minister David Cameron has appointed Amber Rudd as Energy and Climate Change Secretary in his new Cabinet.

She replaces Liberal Democrat Ed Davey, who lost his Kingston and Surbiton seat in the General Election.

After being elected in 2010 as Conservative MP for Hastings and Rye, Amber Rudd then served on the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs Select Committee.

In September 2012, her first promotion saw her made Parliamentary Private Secretary to the Chancellor of the Exchequer, George Osborne. Then in October 2013 she became an Assistant Government Whip.

From July 2014, she served as a minister at the Department for Energy and Climate Change.

She is known for being a supporter of the need to tackle climate change.
