Chancellor of the Exchequer announces call for evidence on single-use plastics

The Chancellor of the Exchequer Philip Hammond has announced in his Spring Statement that there will be a call for evidence on how changes to the tax system can be used to reduce single-use plastics.

From this, the Government will also explore how it can drive innovation in this area to achieve the same outcomes.

The Government will also consider all options for utilising the tax system to address single-use plastic waste and will use the evidence from this call to inform that process.

It also wants to explore the whole supply chain, from production and retail to consumption and disposal, in order to gain a good understanding of the whole picture before deciding on what action to take.
