A gasification facility is set to be built in Bradford by Energos.

The facility on Ripley Road was given planning permission by Bradford Metropolitan District Council’s Regulatory and Appeal Committee.

Energos plans to build a 8.35MW facility that would also provide heat to the local community.

It would treat 160,000 tonnes of mainly commercial and industrial waste from the city.

Permission for the plant had originally been granted in 2010, but this had lapsed due to uncertainty in the financial markets. As a result, Energos had reapplied for the planning permission, and hope to get the construction phase of the plant beginning in early 2014.

It is expected to cost £90 million to build and will help the Bradford and Calderdale area treat part of its 670,000 tonnes of waste treatment infrastructure shortfall.
