Extensive fire damage at Panda recycling plant in Ireland

A large blaze has caused a huge amount of damage at a Panda Waste recycling plant in County Meath, Ireland.

The facility has the capacity to recycle 180,000 tonnes of municipal waste, and it also recycles 120,000 tonnes of commercial cardboard and paper from 1,200 customers around the country for export to China.

It is believed there was also a significant amount of refuse derived fuel kept at the site.

Extensive damage has been caused to the premises, but firefighters managed to contain the blaze to the buildings on the site.

Panda Waste is the largest exporter of recycled material in Ireland and has a turnover of €70 million.
