Fire at Waste Recycling Group transfer facility

A fire has broken out at a Waste Recycling Group waste transfer station in Suffolk.

Around a quarter of the building in Haverhill is on fire with 150 tonnes of household waste destined for landfill ablaze.

Crews from Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service have had to cut holes in the roof of the facility to douse the flames from above. As a result contaminated water also had to be diverted away from main drains under Environment Agency supervision.
