Wiltshire recycling company futur has been acquired by Spanish paper company SAICA.

The purchase of futur is SAICA’s first move into the recycling collection sector and is part of SAICA’s strategy of having a major presence in all three segments of the paper industry with strong integration between paper manufacturing, corrugated packaging and recovery.

In 2008, SAICA bought SCA’s 18 corrugated packaging facilities in the UK and Ireland. Then in early 2010, it began construction on a £290 million paper mill in Partington, Manchester, which is due to start production in March 2012.

The futur business will remain at its Wiltshire base and SAICA will retain and extend the existing management team to head up its UK operations in paper recovery and integrated waste management.

futur managing director Simon Dymoke said: “At futur, we are very proud of the reputation we have built within the UK recycling industry as evidenced by our loyal blue chip client base. Our year-on-year growth has been based on continual development of our service offering and being part of SAICA’s exciting plans for the UK presents opportunities for both futur and our customers.

“SAICA has always been at the forefront of product innovation and as a strong family company, is able to take a longer-term view. The Partington mill presents exciting opportunities for our customers to see their cardboard recycled in the UK and enjoy the benefits of lower waste miles, reduced carbon footprint and closed-loop recycling.”
