A contract to provide recycling and waste services to Aspire Defence Services Limited (ADSL) has been retained by Hills Waste Solutions.

The three-year contact, with an optional extension for two years, will see Hills provide the service as part of the 35-year Project Allen/Connaught total facilities management PFI deal that ADSL operates across four army garrisons on Salisbury Plain and Aldershot.

Since the first contract was awarded in 2009, the recycling rate has increased from 12 per cent to 20.5 per cent with a 14 per cent reduction in the amount sent to landfill.

Under the new contract, all non-recyclable general waste will be processed through energy from waste plants resulting in 100 per cent diversion from landfill.

HWS commercial manager Gary McKinnon said: We are pleased to be awarded this contract especially as competition from other national operators was strong. This reflects on how HWS has progressed its service offering so that we are now able to provide ADSL and their customer, the Ministry of Defence, a zero to landfill solution.”
