Plans by Sky Properties to build an eco-park in Salford that will contain an energy from waste facility and recycling centre are subject to a new inquiry that has begun in the city.

The company wished to build the Green Lane eco-park on the site of a disused factory in Monton, Salford, but its plans were rejected by Salford Council last June following a public campaign. This included a petition signed by over two thousand people and backed by local MP Hazel Blears.

A Government inspector will now decide whether the council was correct to block the plans for the £70 million park.

The hearing could last up to three weeks.

Sky Properties’Anthony Hirsch said: “We are still committed to investing in the site and working with the council, businesses and the local community.

“We back the council’s aspirations to regenerate the area, as the development will provide new jobs and visually enhance Green Lane.

“There is still an opportunity to benefit from proven technology delivering environmental and economic benefits, including 60 jobs.”
