A £2 million MRF is set to be opened by Interserve Site Services in Aldridge near to Birmingham next month.

The facility is being built by parent group Interserve, which is a construction and services company, and it will handle 250,000 tonnes of material a year. This will be sourced from contracts with councils, the commercial and construction sectors.

Interserve Site Services expect that the facility will be able to prepare 95 per cent of the waste for recycling.

Walsall Housing Group head of housing services Gary Brookes said: “We have been working with Interserve Site Services for five years now. As an organisation which places a lot of importance on the environment, we know that the careful handling of waste is crucial.

“We know Interserve Site Services offers high levels of recycling, and has the back-up of the Interserve group with is ISO14001 green credentials. This new facility will do much to assist us in the challenge of meeting our landfill reduction targets, and it will be good to see it in operation in January next year.”
