This week’s scrap-ex price report shows downward pressure on some plastics grades.
There is less Chinese demand for materials now that the Christmas production rush is over and this has pushed prices down. However, manufacturing plastic grades are still seeing decent domestic demand that has pushed prices up.
Natural PET is down to £340 to £380 this week from £360 to £390 a week ago. HDPE milk bottles have fallen to £350 to £390 this week from £365 to £405 last time. Mixed bottles scrap-ex grade A have slumped to £205 to £240 from last week’s £235 to £265. LDPE film 98/2 is down to £250 to £290 from £260 to £295 a week ago.
However, HDPE Regrind was up to £410 to £465 this week compared to £385 to £420 a week ago. HDPE Wheelie Bin Regrind was up to £445 to £490 from £440 to £480.
Paper grades have picked up a little after recent drops. OCC was up a touch to £82 to £92 per tonne from £80 to £90 last week. News and pams was at £105 to £115 from £100 to £110 last week. While mixed papers increased to £95 to £110 from £90 to £100 a week ago.
Copper dry bright moved up to £4,550 to £4,825 from £4,450 to £4,700 last week. Aluminium cuttings increased to £1,150 to £1,500 from last week’s £1,100 to £1,450.
Ferrous grade OA structural plant was down to £260 to £320 from last week’s £265 to £325.
Aluminium cans increased substantially at the upper end to £950 to £1,200 from £950 to £1,050 last week.
