UK private equity firm Ludgate Investments is planning to launch a second environment fund that will invest in the recycling and waste sector.

Ludgate currently owns 20 per cent of Eco Plastics, and a share in WEEE recycler Terra Nova. Its first Ludgate Environment Fund, which was launched in 2007, has raised over $100 million and invests in small to mid-cap businesses in recycling and waste, energy generation and water in northern Europe.

It expects that its next fund will be two to three times bigger.

Ludgate chief executive Gijs Voskamp told Reuters: “We see a lot of investment opportunities in the pipeline, in which we can invest a large amount. Regulation is becoming more stringent. The EU’s electronic waste directive will also benefit our portfolio.”
