MVV to appeal against planning refusal for energy from waste bottom ash plant

German company MVV Environment has decided to appeal against Devon County Council’s decision to refuse planning permission for a bottom ash recycling plant in Buckfastleigh.

The company is currently building an energy from waste plant in Plymouth, and submitted a planning application for build the bottom ash recycling facility as well as a materials recycling facility at Whiteleave Quarry.

Despite the planning application being recommended for approval by council officers, the application was refused by councillors in April.

MVV Environment Devonport managing director Paul Carey said: “We have considered our options over the past five months and remain convinced that the Whitecleave Quarry site is the best available.

“Our lawyers have been in contact with Devon County Council to seek clarification of the reasons for refusal prior to making the formal appeal to the Planning Inspectorate.”
