A 100 per cent recycled polythene bag has been designed by bpi.visqueen to help British Airways with its onboard recycling programme.

One of the airline’s aims is to increase its levels of onboard waste recycling and bpi has designed a sack that can easily be attached to galley carts so that cabin crew can collect items for recycling, with a specific focus on cans.

Launched on short haul flights from Heathrow last year, it has now been extended to in-bound long haul flights.

The sacks are manufactured by bpi.recycled products and are designed to fit the carts perfectly.

British Airways manager environment Gary Meades said: “At British Airways we have a target to reduce the amount of waste to landfill by recycling as much waste as we possibly can. Working with our catering partners we continually strive to reduce the amount of catering waste produced from flights and initiatives like onboard can recycling makes a significant contribution to the effort.

“Working with the team at bpi.visqueen, we were able to design a lightweight but highly durable recycling bag that blends seamlessly into the existing onboard catering infrastructure.”
