Canadian firm Nexterra Systems Corp and UK business Stopford Projects have formed a strategic alliance to develop Nexterra’s gasification energy from waste systems in the UK.

The partners were brought together by global defence, aerospace and security company BAE Systems. For the past five years, BAE Systems has been helping Canadian companies find international partners with which they can co-develop innovative technologies.

Stopford Projects managing director Prith Rajendran said: “The UK is a growing market for clean, renewable energy solution like Nexterra’s.

“We strongly believe that combining Nexterra’s proven and robust energy from waste systems with our local market knowledge will create an exciting opportunity for both our companies.”

Nexterra president and chief executive Mike Scott added: “We are very pleased to partner with a leading firm like Stopford. We recognise the critical importance of strong local partners in the development of energy from waste projects, and Stopford’s extensive experience in this sector made them a great fit for Nexterra.

“We look forward to working with Stopford to establish our energy from renewable waste systems as the standard for converting local waste feedstocks into heat and power for industry and communities across the UK, while delivering world-class emissions performance.

“Our long standing relationship with BAE Systems has been instrumental in bringing us this far.”

Nexterra is an established leader in renewable energy from waste systems with numerous operating plants in North America in both industrial and institutional setting.

Stopford Projects is a UK leader in the assessment of gasification technologies and design of complete waste to energy systems for both the UK and global markets.
