China plans to increase domestic metal recycling

Six to eight new scrap copper recycling plants are to be built in China, according to China Non Ferrous Metals Industry Association Recycling Metal Branch deputy general secretary Hongchang Ma. Each of these copper recycling plants would be able to recycle 200,000 tonnes of material. In addition, eight to 10 aluminium recycling plants will be constructed, also each able to recycle 200,000 tonnes. It will also build 10 lead recycling plants which can each process 50,000 tonnes. China also imported 1.4 million tonnes of copper in the first four months of 2011, up 2 per cent compared to last year, official customs data showed.
