Spain has become one of the major suppliers of scrap metal to China.

Pablo Recio from the Chamber of Commerce of Andalusia has revealed that Spain sends more scrap aluminium to China than any country apart from the United States and Malaysia. He also said that according to Chinese customs data, Spain was the third biggest exporter of scrap copper behind the United States and Australia.

At present, Spain is the sixth biggest exported of ferrous metals to China but plans to export more.

Recio also revealed that although most of the export of scrap metal is currently done via brokers, many Spanish scrap merchants are now seeking to gain AQSIQ licences.
