WEEE Approved Authorised Treatment facility (AATF) operators have assembled a new representative forum to be the voice for the sector in talks with enforcement agencies and the Government.
As members make up 80% of WEEE recycling in the UK, the forum will be able to provide a focus for the WEEE treatment industry to improve its standards, support the development of regulatory changes and resolve technical issues.
Issues such as collection targets, scope change, and supply chain responsibilities will depend on a treatment sector to generate cost effective facilities that provide the biggest environmental standards.
To cooperate in a non-competitive body will allow the industry to work with Government to give the UK the ultimate platform for the future.
Primarily, the forum will work informally, be independently administered and be followed by regular meetings every two months.
SWEEEP commercial manager Justin Greenaway, who initiated the idea of the forum, said: “I am delighted that this has been supported so strongly by AATFs, Defra and the Agencies. It has illustrated the need for our sector to work both together and with these Government organisations in a more focussed and coordinated way to deliver national improvement for the future.”
Members of this forum include: AO, Eco Technology, Electrical Waste, EMR, Environcom, GAP Waste, Light Brothers, London Mining, Mercury Recycling, Recycling Lives, S Norton, Sims, SWEEEP, Veolia, Viridor and Wiser.
