The Resource Association is a new trade body that is being launched to work for the interests of recyclers and reprocessors.

It will be launched at a special event in the Houses of Parliament on 8 November and will advocate the value of this industry to the low-carbon/green economy and will promote the need for quality materials to produce quality recycled products.

Its first chief executive will be former WRAP director and current consultant Ray Georgeson who will work on a part-time basis initially. Novelis national manager Andy Doran is chairing the steering group that is setting up the Resource Association, and this group will shortly become the board of directors of the body.

Resource Association chief executive Ray Georgeson told scrap-ex news: “The discussion about creating this has been going on for a considerable time. There is a genuine space for meeting the needs of recyclers and reprocessors and I am looking forward to meeting that challenge.”

A number of recycling and reprocessing companies have already agreed to become founding members of the association. Full membership will be open to all reprocessors of recovered materials, while affiliate membership will be available to all companies in the reprocessing supply chain and associated sectors including collection companies and equipment suppliers. Affiliate membership will also be available to local authorities, trade associations, NGOs, community groups and individuals. Associate membership is open to service providers such as lawyers, accountants, financial advisers and consultancies.
