The paper and plastics recycling market looks set to continue to be difficult in the near term, according to The Recycling Association.

Speaking at its AGM, chief executive Simon Ellin said that it was not an easy market out there at the moment.

He added: “Although prices are up, it is extremely challenging as volumes are down.”

In his presentation to members, he also noted that guidance on exports needs to be clearer, as some of its members are being prosecuted without clear criteria on allowed levels of contamination in recycling exports.

The Recycling Association president Adrian Jackson also noted that this was the 40th AGM of the association and that it continues to do more work in Europe to push the interests of the recycling sector on legislation such as the circular economy package.
