JKL (Wakefield) Ltd, which traded as Eric France Metal Recycling has gone out of business with the loss of 18 jobs and debts of £22 million.

The company, which was based in Ossett, West Yorkshire, held a meeting of creditors on 26 February at which liquidators KPMG and PricewaterhouseCoopers were appointed.

In a statement, the liquidators said: “It is understood that, according to the directors’ statement of affairs, £21 million of the company’s total debts of £22 million relate to unpaid VAT.”

Another casualty of the liquidation was the main sponsor of Wakefield Wildcats rugby league team paying a six-figure sum. As a result, they are now on the lookout for a replacement.
