The chief executive of Sims Metal Management Europe and Global Sims Recycling Solutions Graham Davy has been elected deputy president of the British Metals Recycling Association.

Graham Davy will take over as president of the metal trade body when current president Michael Oppenheimer next year.

Davy said: “Taking on this role at the BMRA is a great opportunity to build on the efforts of my peers – past and present – to put the metals and electronics recycling industry’s case forward to government.

“We want to ensure the right policy and regulatory framework is in place to help the industry deal with the estimated 13 to 15 million tonnes of metals recycled in the UK every year. Our key messages remain the same: metal recycling is good for the UK economy, good for jobs and good for the environment.”

BMRA director general Ian Hetherington added: “Graham brings invaluable knowledge and experience to the role, especially his exposure to European and global issues facing the recycling sector.

“His experience in the practical aspects of managing a diverse array of recycling assets, including new technology to recover as much material as possible from end of life products, will assist us in our continuing dialogue with government and other stakeholders.”
