Swedish furniture retailer Ikea is set to become a retailer using the principles of the circular economy, according to its head of sustainability.

Speaking at the Guardian Sustainable Business debate and reported by the Guardian, Steve Howard said that Ikea will increasingly become a place where you can repair and recycle products as people begin to buy less of its products.

He said: “If we look on a global basis, in the west we have probably hit peak stuff. We talk about peak oil. I’d say we’ve hit peak red meat, peak sugar, peak stuff…peak home furnishings.

“We will be increasingly building a circular Ikea where you can repair and recycle products.”
