French technology giant Technip Energies has agreed to help New York outfit Anellotech develop its innovative plastic recycling process.

The companies will work together on the Plas-TCat system, which converts mixed-polymer waste to chemicals that can be used to make virgin material.

They will undertake comprehensive performance trials at Anellotech’s demonstration plant in Texas as they seek to develop the technology.

Technip Energies’ downstream processing units will be used, and the French-owned firm will become global Plas-TCat licensor.

Use of the technology could ultimately slash carbon emissions in half, compared with production of virgin monomers in traditional naphtha crackers.

Bhaskar Patel, senior vice-president for sustainable fuels, chemicals and circularity at Technip Energies, said the firm was “delighted” to work on Plas-TCat.

“Anellotech’s technology brings a new pathway towards solving the plastic waste problem, converting the mixed plastic wastes into useful end products,” he added.

David Sudolsky, founder, president and chief executive of Anellotech, said: “This collaboration will provide the scalable, cost-efficient, attractive solution needed to address plastic sustainability.”
