WRAP has begun the search to find a new chairman after current holder Peter Stone decided to retire.

He will step down in autumn this year after holding the post for two terms since 2008.

Peter Stone said: “During my six years as chairman, I’ve been delighted by WRAP’s progress under Liz Goodwin’s leadership. We are now well-known for our work, not only in the public sector and the business sectors with which we work but also by members of the public throughout the UK. We also have a growing international reputation, in particular for our work on food waste.

“We have successfully negotiated a succession of Government reviews of our role and funding. Also, at the instigation of Government, we have absorbed the work of many smaller and specialist service-providers previously active in our sector.

“Internally, we have refreshed our board with new appointments and recruited many able specialists to join our staff. I feel WRAP has emerged stronger, is highly respected by funders and partners alike, and has now become an acknowledged global leader in the vitally important work to tackle food waste.

“Recently, we announced plans for WRAP to become a charity. This will assist us to unlock new sources of funding and take our work forward despite recent reductions in the financial support from Government. This is clearly the beginning of a period of transition for WRAP and it will be a good time for my successor to join and then help guide the organisation onwards.”

WRAP chief executive Liz Goodwin added: “I am personally very grateful for the wise counsel and skilled leadership which Peter has brought to WRAP. His successor will be joining an ambitious organisation with an enviable track record, a powerful international network, highly skilled staff and committed to delivering sustainable use of resources.”

Executive recruitment firm Gatenby Sanderson has been appointed by WRAP to assist with the search for potential candidates.
