Global aluminium can manufacturer Novelis has launched a can body that will contain a minimum of 90 per cent recycled aluminium.
The Novelis evercan body will be matched with the can end, which is made from a different alloy, giving a certified 70 per cent recycled content can.
Novelis president and chief executive Phil Martens said: “We are excited to be able to deliver yet another tangible result of our commitment to sustainable aluminium product innovation.
“Our Novelis evercan high recycled beverage can body sheet, backed by the industry’s first independent certification programme, represents tremendous progress in sustainable consumer products packaging.
“As the world’s leading supplier of aluminium beverage can sheet, this is an important step toward delivering on our ultimate vision of an aluminium can with up to 100 per cent recycled content.”
The new evercan is available now in Europe and North America, and will be made available in the rest of the world later this year.
