Chinese importers of recycled plastic have said that volumes have fallen due to government enforcement programmes.

According to Plastics News, speakers at the ChinaReplas 2012 conference held in Beijing recently reported that following enforcement that means only washed plastics can enter the country, volumes of imports have dropped dramatically.

Plastics recycler Shenzhen New Rainbow Recycling Materials Technology said that its imports of HDPE bottles had fallen 20 per cent as a result.

Hong-Kong based Lung Shing International Group also reported a one third drop of imports through the port of Guangzhou, but that was a better performance that the 50 per cent fall seen overall in the port it said.
