Shirley Rodrigues to focus on boosting recycling rates in London for Mayor Sadiq Khan

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has appointed Shirley Rodrigues as the new deputy mayor for environment and energy.

She is currently the Acting Executive Director for Climate Change at the Children’s Investment Fund Foundation (CIFF), which is a philanthropic organisation that works to transform the lives of poor and vulnerable children in developing countries.

She worked on environmental policy at City Hall between 2005 and 2009. While at CIFF, she helped establish its cities and climate change strategy and represents CIFF on the board of the C40 Large Cities Leadership Group.

As well as working to increase recycling and cut landfill use in the capital, she will be responsible for dealing with air pollution and generating more low-carbon energy.

Sadiq Khan said: “Shirley Rodrigues brings with her a wealth of knowledge and experience and is the perfect person to deliver my agenda to make London a cleaner and greener city.”
