New data from the Association of European Producers of Steel for Packaging (APEAL) shows that 74 per cent of steel cans were recycled across Europe in 2011.
This is an increase of 3 per cent on the 71 per cent recorded in 2010.

The data from APEAL shows that 2.6 million tonnes of steel was recycled across Europe in 2011.
European Union MEP Filip Kaczmarek said: “These figures show just how much of an impact we can have on reducing carbon emissions through recycling and better use of resources.
“This is an excellent example of how each and every one of us can make a big difference in our fight against climate change and towards greater resource efficiency.”
