Thieves looking to steal recycling from homes in South Wales

First of all it was metal theft, but now there have been reports that material put outside homes for recycling is being stolen.

According to the South Wales Echo newspaper, there have been four or five complaints to South Wales Police from householders in the Vale of Glamorgan that mixed recyclate has been taken by thieves from outside their homes.

It is believed that cars pulled up and took the recycling from the kerbside in the Cowbridge area of the council.

Geoffrey Cox, who is a councillor in the area, told the newspaper: “I am concerned that incidents are being reported of paper placed out for recycling being taken from the kerbside.

“We believe that this is due to the rewards currently being offered by private companies for recyclable materials.”

The police also believe this is the reason the material has been taken, according to the newspaper.
