Volatility for ferrous metals set to continue says BIR

BIR’s ferrous division president has said that he expects volatility in the recycled ferrous metal market to continue in 2017.

Sims Group Global Trade Corporation and BIR ferrous division president William Schiedel said that 2016 was a year of heightened volatility and increased risk.

He added that he expected 2017 to be the same. He said: “As we look forward into 2017, the global landscape appears to be equally volatile.

“Much of the outlook for ferrous scrap and steel prices will depend on government policies rather than traditional supply and demand fundamentals.

“This is not just true in China, but in most major steel-producing regions.”
