German packaging company KHS has developed what it says is the first 100% rPET recyclable juice bottle.
Its Beyond Fresh concept is made from fully recycled PET content and uses the FreshSafe PET barrier system to provide product and freshness protection.
The bottle is also the first rPET recyclable bottle to receive a 20 out of 20 score for the Made for Recycling seal by Interseroh.
With the label area on the bottle kept small, sorting systems recognise it as a PET bottle. Multipacks are connected using small amounts of easily removable adhesive rather than using plastic film.
KHS Corpoplast product manager for barrier technology Philipp Langhammer said: “With Beyond Juice we’re providing concrete answers to the challenges of the beverage industry, taking the juice bottle as an example.
“Also in view of the current debate on practical plastics, environmentally-friendly systems are becoming more and more important.
“When developing the bottle, we strictly adhered to our credo of environmental protection, recyclability and maximum product protection.”
