Supermarket ALDI is going to trail clear HDPE caps on milk bottles in Cheshire, Manchester and Liverpool.

Its semi-skimmed green milk bottle tops will be replaced by the clear ones during the trial.

If successful, it will be rolled out to all stores supplied by dairy firm Müller (who are partnering in this trial), and will mean an additional 60 tonnes per year of HDPE could be turned back into new milk bottles.

ALDI plastics and packaging director Richard Gorman said: “We know it’s becoming increasingly important to our customers that their everyday products are environmentally-friendly, and we are constantly reviewing ways to become a more sustainable supermarket.

“By trialling clear milk caps we are making our milk bottles easier to recycle, so they can be turned back into new packaging.”
