Non-ferrous metals will be recycled by Alutrade after being treated at New Earth Solutions’  mechanical biological treatment plant in Avonmouth following the signing of a new contract.

The New Earth Solutions facility treats residual waste, which goes through a sorting process that removes plastics and metals for recycling before creating a refuse derived fuel.

Mixed non-ferrous metals will be sent to Alutrade where they will be separated into aluminium cans and other metals for recycling.

Any contamination from the material will be sent back to New Earth Solutions for additional treatment along with any waste generated at Alutrade’s site.

Alutrade commercial buyer Andrew Powell said: “MBT is a growing area in the recycling industry and by getting on the front foot and coming up with innovative ways of further recycling the streams that are produced by New Earth Solutions, it provides a fantastic new business opportunity for both companies.”

New Earth Solutions commercial director Richard Brooke added: “I’m delighted to be working with a secure, established business like Alutrade. It’s important for New Earth to secure destinations for its recyclable products to maximise the benefits of the process to our customers. The arrangement with Alutrade provides both security and quality reprocessing within the UK.”
