Amcor chief to take the reins of the UK’s packaging EPR scheme

Amcor circular economy chief Jeremy Blake is to take a key role in the delivery of the UK’s packaging disposal tax.

He will become the permanent chief executive of extended producer responsibility (EPR) scheme administrator PackUK in September.

Blake joined packaging giant Amcor in May as director of circular economy, following a three-year stint at plastic container maker Berry Global.

He will replace interim head of PackUK Margaret Bates in a few weeks, shortly before the first invoices go out to producers obligated under EPR in October.

Esther Carter, director at environmental organisation Delterra, will become chief strategy officer at PackUK in September. Recruitment of a permanent chief operating officer is underway.

Bates said she was “delighted” with Blake’s appointment.

“I have known and admired Jez for some time,” she said. “He brings a commitment to the circular economy, together with great sector knowledge and leadership.

“It is great that I can pass the excellent team at PackUK to someone I know and trust.”
