The Australian Minister for the Environment Melissa Price has announced that all packaging is to be 100% recyclable, reusable or compostable by 2025 or earlier.
This follows a new Australasian Recycling Label which provides clearer recycling information, with more than more than 50 businesses now using this new recycling label on their packaging.
This year’s REB Market Intelligence Summit is taking place on 2 October and will look at end destinations for materials. Find out more here
It is hoped this label will now help consumers decide which bin to use, as well as remove confusion and reduce waste.
The industry-led waste targets will also see:
- 70% of Australia’s plastic packaging being recycled or composted
- 30% average recycled content across all packaging
- Phasing out unnecessary single-use plastic packaging.
The Minister said this will help the 100% recycling target set for 2020.
