Chemicals company BASF and recycled cardboard manufacturer Schuster-Karton have developed a technique to allow more recycled content in fast food packaging.
By applying the biopolymer ecovio PS 1606 to recycled cardboard in the extrusion costing process, a greater proportion of recycled fibres can be used in fast food packaging while still making them suitable for industrial composting.

Although the polymer coating is thinner than a human hair, it prevents the migration of undesired substances such as mineral oils and ink residues that can be in recycled cardboard.
As the polymer is bio-based, it means this cardboard is both recyclable and compostable, while still have high greaseproof qualities and liquid tightness. Â
