Packaging giant Berry Global has released recyclable plastic cups.
The US firm, which recently announced a merger with Swiss rival Amcor, displayed the polypropylene drinks containers at a trade show in Chicago this month.
Developed using Berry’s Bantam technology, the cups incorporate rigidity bands for durability.
They are up to 15 per cent lighter than polystyrene equivalents according to the company, as well as being fully recyclable and food-contact safe.
“As a leader in innovation, Berry has a long history of creating more sustainable products while enhancing the consumer experience,” said Erica Colgan, product line director at Berry Global.
“Our redesigned party cup, informed by consumer research, optimises durability, grip and comfort while improving recyclability and supporting a circular economy.”
Berry also recently revealed a collaboration with men’s skincare brand True to launch a refillable deodorant in Poland.
The system consists of a removable 75ml pack made of recyclable polypropylene, which needs to be replaced every three months or so.
