PHS Wastetech’s nationwide service has 12,000 customers and these geographically complements Biffa’s operational platform. The acquisition also means Biffa has four new operating locations.

The acquisition comes quickly after the purchase of the Shanks solid waste business.

It will enhance Biffa’s volumes and enable it to consolidate more waste into recycling and energy-from-waste facilities, leading to growth in its energy and processing operations.

Biffa chief executive Ian Wakelin said: “Today’s acquisition is another step forward in our strategy to grow market share and enhance our leading industrial and commercial services.

“We will swiftly integrate PHS Wastetech into Biffa’s national infrastructure and excellent customer service platform, further strengthening our position as the UK’s leading integrated waste management company.”

The acquisition process is expected to be completed in late February/early March.
