Reusable packaging for burgers and drinks are being tested at five Burger King stores in the UK.

In partnership with Loop, the restaurant chain is trialling reusable burger and drink packaging in Newmarket and Ipswich.

Customers will need to pay a £1 deposit for the packaging, and will then get their burger, other food products or drink in it. In total, there are 10 Burger King UK products that can be served in the reusable packaging.

When finished, customers can scan the packaging with the Loop app, deposit it in the special bins outside the stores, and their deposit is returned to them.

The clamshell containers and cups are then professionally cleaned using Loop’s state-of-the-art system.

Burger King UK director of commercial planning and ESG Nicola Pierce said: “We’re delighted to unveil a trial range of reusable and returnable packaging for our restaurants. The launch of the new packaging from Burger King UK will include the first ever reusable and returnable ‘clamshell’ for burgers and sides in the UK.

“We’re excited to see how the trial performs over the next five months and help us reach our goal of eliminating single-use plastic within our restaurants by 2025.”
