Alupro has launched a campaign to boost recycling of aluminium over the festive period.
The industry body said the initiative, dubbed Santa’s Little Recyclers, would help councils boost recovery rates in December.
It calls for households to recycle more aluminium packaging including mince pie cases, drinks cans, wrapping foil, chocolate foil, empty aerosols and metal closures on bottles.
UK households dispose of millions of tonnes of packaging every festive season, Alupro said.
The body produced a suite of dedicated resources for local authorities, including an animation and a range of static images for use on social media and in local advertisements.
The campaign will include messages on Heart Christmas radio station as well as in Delicious and Sainsbury’s Magazine.
“We’re keen to support local authorities and work together to boost recycling rates,” saidAlupro executive director Tom Giddings.
“The festive season is an ideal time to spread awareness about recycling as those Christmas treats increase the amount of aluminium packaging in the house.”
