The Ministry has approved two plans to restrict imports of foreign waste. These include an Action Plan for 2018-2020 that will gradually see imports reduced and replaced with domestic sources of material where possible. It appears that the aim of this could be to eventually ban all waste imports.

In the statement, the Ministry added: “The ban on foreign garbage imports is a landmark measure for the country’s construction of an ecological civilization and should be implemented unswervingly and effectively.”

Additionally, the Ministry has confirmed that it will create additional resources for inspections of waste imports including more co-ordination of local government bodies.
