China releases 1.6 million tonnes of recovered paper import quota

Around 1.6 million tonnes of recovered paper import quota has been approved by the Chinese Government.

From 10 July 2019, a total of 1,672,560 tonnes of paper imports will be allowed for approved importers/mills.

This quota applies to commodity codes 470710000, 4707200000 and 470730000. These typically equate to OCC, SOW and news & pam grades. Mixed paper was banned for import at the end of 2018.

The news follows hot on the heels of China revealing that it will gradually reduce imports of solid waste rather than set a date to ban it by the end of 2020.

News of the new quota was published by the China Solid Waste and Chemicals Office, which is part of the Ministry of Ecology and Environment.
