Chinese paper and cardboard quota in 2020 has fallen by 40% on the same period in 2019, the latest quota release shows.

The country has just released a further 197,840 tonnes of quota for permitted paper and cardboard commodity codes.

This takes the total to 6,343,600 tonnes allocated to Chinese mills for import this year.

However, at the same point in 2019, 10,901,749 tonnes had been issued, while in 2018 it was 11,625,126 tonnes by August.

China has promised to reduce imports ahead of the ban on imports of solid waste at the end of 2020.
