A major industry panel has been relaunched in a bid to boost its influence.
The Chartered Institution of Wastes Management (CIWM) said it had “reset” its Policy and Innovation Forum to have a “greater impact on sector research and policy”.
Chaired by former Waste and Resources Action Programme chief executive Marcus Gover, the group aims to provide “evidence-based insight” to stakeholders.
The CIWM said the forum would “act as a hub for thought-leadership in resources, recycling and waste management”.
It added that the new approach reflected the institution’s purpose “to move the world beyond waste”.
Members of the forum include Adam Read, chief sustainability officer at waste giant Suez; West London Waste Authority chief executive Emma Beal; and Costas Velis, senior lecturer in waste and resource engineering at Imperial College London.
Gover said: “In a period of unprecedented change and opportunities, our reset Policy and Innovation Forum provides a crucial role for CIWM, the wider sector and beyond.
“From industry leaders to specialist academics, we are bringing together a wealth of expertise with a deep knowledge of innovative practices in order to help shape progressive policy within resource and waste management and identify vital opportunities to move towards a low-carbon, resource-efficient and more circular UK economy.”
