Major drinks manufacturer Coca Cola has said it will support trials of a recycling deposit scheme for cans and bottles in Scotland.
The company announced at an event organised by Holyrood magazine that it had been examining the idea of a deposit scheme for cans and bottles that are returned to the retailer for recycling, and would support a trial of the scheme.
Although it had previously resisted the introduction of this type of scheme, Coca Cola said it has changed its mind following a combination of experience showing these programmes working in other countries and its own polling showed that 63% of consumers backed the idea.
