A 30,000 tonnes per year recycling plant has been opened by Coca-Cola HBC in Italy.

Following an investment of €30 million (£25.93 million), a disused factory in Gaglianico has been transformed into a facility that will manufacture preforms from 100% recycled PET. It is able to produce enough preforms to meet Coca-Cola HBC’s bottling needs of Italy.

The new plant is able to produce nine types of preforms and more than 4,700 quality checks are made per day to ensure high quality standards are met.

Coca-Cola HBC Italia general manager Frank O’Donnell said: “We want to keep investing and doing our part both to move toward a circular economy in Italy and contribute to the development of innovative projects in a region to which we are particularly close, despite the difficulties in our sector related to the rising cost of raw materials and energy.

“This renovated plant proves that giving companies the opportunity to do business and investment allows them to innovate and be more sustainable.”
