Czech investor buys UK steel recycler

A Czech company has bought metal recycler Celsa Steel UK.

Sev.en Global Investments said it had completed the acquisition of the Cardiff-based firm alongside that of Scandinavian sister business Celsa Nordic.

The two companies, which have a combined production capacity of 2m tonnes per year, will be rebranded as 7 Steel UK and 7 Steel Nordic

Alan Svoboda, chief executive of Sev.en Global Investments, said: “We believe that steel is a long-term sound investment.

“We will support growth, development, further innovation and the green transition.”

As well as manufacturing facilities in Cardiff, Celsa Steel UK has four scrap yards across the UK and 17 fabricator depots.

The firm has worked on projects in London including Wembley Stadium, the Olympic Park and The Shard.

Carles Rovira, chief executive of 7 Steel UK, said: “Backed by Sev.en Global Investments, we are poised to accelerate innovation and strengthen our leadership in the circular economy.”
