Domestic-appliance giant Electrolux Group has set its sights on using recycled material for more than a third of the weight of steel and plastic in its products by the end of this decade.
The Stockholm-headquartered manufacturer said the 35 per cent by 2030 target was almost double its previous ambition.
“As a sustainability leader, we will continue to push ourselves and the industry to adopt even bolder sustainability commitments,” said chief sustainability officer Elena Breda.
“I am very proud that we have set this target as an industry first. It will help us drive our company’s circularity agenda through the increased use of recycled steel and plastics in our products.”
Electrolux said it had made “good progress” on reducing carbon emissions in 2024.
The firm added that it sourced 94 per cent of electricity and almost two-thirds of total energy used in operations from renewable sources last year.
Electrolux said “resource-efficient products” accounted for 24 per cent of units sold last year, and 33 per cent of gross profit.
Breda said a fixed-cost repair service helped keep products running for longer and “continued to be popular in Europe”.
