Chelmsford College has been named among 20 recycling heroes around the world.
The Essex institution was chosen by the Global Recycling Foundation (GRF) alongside organisations from India, Uganda, the US, the Cook Islands and elsewhere.
Entrants to the competition were asked to submit short videos demonstrating innovative ideas to promote positive waste management.
The winners, announced to mark Global Recycling Day on 18 March, won $500 (£385) and a wave of publicity.
The GRF said Chelmsford College “consistently shows its dedication to pioneering a greener future”.
The further education provider has made a commitment to reach net zero by 2040 and runs initiatives such as a Pringles tube recycling programme to work towards this.
Ranjit Baxi, founding president of the GRF, said: “On this Global Recycling Day let us all pledge to share and promote recycling as an integral part of the global circular economy.”
He added: “I am heartened by the number of entries in our Recycling Heroes competition which focused on the use of plastic.”
