PVC-U windows manufacturer Eurocell has opened a £3 million recycling facility.

The processing plant is capable of recycling 12,000 end-of-life window frames per week, which is around 20,000 tonnes of recycled windows a year.

Based in Illkeston, in Derbyshire, the facility is operated by Eurocell subsidiary Merritt Plastics.

Eurocell chief executive Patrick Bateman told PRW magazine: “We want to stop end-of-life PVC from going into landfill and this material can be re-used up to 10 times. Stack that up against timber and the argument for using PVC is very strong.

“The fact that we can do this here in Derbyshire and supply locally shows our commitment to lowering our carbon footprint.”
